Cultural anthropology is the study of other cultures, beliefs and practices of other living beings. Anthropology helps a group of people understand other groups of people. For this assignment you and two partners will study cultural aspects of a specified group to learn about that group and anthropology. Prior to colonization of the United States over 500 Indigenous tribes inhabited the United States. Today Oregon is home to nine of those tribes whose ancestral lands were located near or in our state. Your assignment will be to choose and study one of these tribes.

Directions:

            Within groups of three, choose an indigenous tribe from the state of Oregon of which you will create a Power Point presentation. This presentation should be a historical reference to the tribal life before signing a recognized Treaty, and today. Students must research tribes using not only online materials but at least three written sources or interviews. Presentations should include the following the information.

            1) Life Style before Treaty               2) Tribe Today

·         Language                                           Language

·         Diet                                                     Diet

·         Housing                                              Housing

·         Family Structure                               Common Family

·         Economy / Trading                           Economy (reservation today)

·         Religion                                              Religion

·         Recreation                                          Recreation

·         Relationship to other tribes              Relationship to United States

·         Famous Tribal Leaders                    Current Tribal Leaders

Students should gather as much information on the subjects as possible and include interesting and important information in Power Points. Pictures are also required to give audience a better understanding of ideas presented.

Layout:

-          Be sure to include a title slide, introducing your tribe and group

-          Each topic should be covered in 1-2 slides, or more.

-          Each topic should have 3-4 facts in presentation.

-          Each show should include  at least 12 Pictures, or more

-          Pictures must be of different topics.

-          Slide show should include animations, & Transitions

-          Presentation should include more information than presented in slide show

o   i.e. know your subject so you can talk about it

-          Slide show should be turned in by being printed in a hand out format, six slides to a page.

-          A bibliography (MLA) must be turned in as well. (25 points)
